Why Jesus?
God is holy – completely different and separate from us. He is like a brilliant light we can’t look at, or searing heat we can’t approach, or an enormous distance away that we can’t reach. We are far from holy. Every day, we choose wrong. From a sharp word with a loved one, to making money by oppressing the weak. We choose selfishness, greed, pride and hatred.
In fact, if you had to sum up what’s wrong with the world today, the cause of injustice, poverty and pain, in one word, it would be this: us.
God is just. He cannot and will not let man’s sin go unpunished. And the price is death.
The story could have finished there. But in His mercy and grace, God didn’t leave us with the punishment we deserve.
Jesus came to save us
God sent his son, Jesus. Jesus lived the perfect life, which meant that, unlike us, He could stand before a holy God.
When He died on the cross, Jesus took all man’s sin upon himself. He took our place and our punishment. God was satisfied that the penalty for man’s sin was paid and justice was done.
Jesus died and rose again
When Jesus physically rose from the dead three days after His death, this confirmed His true identity as the Son of God. Without the resurrection of Jesus, the whole message falls apart - if Jesus couldn't overcome death Himself, then how can He promise us eternal life after the grave? If Jesus didn't rise from the dead then we are all still 'dead in our sins' and Christians are to be pitied more than anyone on the planet.
If you read the book of Acts in the Bible, you'll find that the early disciples couldn't stop talking about the resurrection of Jesus - it had surprised them as much as it surprises people today! They understood that because God had raised Jesus from the dead, He really is all that He claimed to be, and eternal life is genuinely found in Him.
After a period of forty days, when the resurrected Jesus appeared to His disciples numbers of times, He then returned to the heavenly realm where He was received triumphantly as the overcoming King - He had successfully overcome all the powers of darkness through His perfect life, horrendous death and magnificent resurrection!
Jesus took His place at the Father's 'right hand'. He sent His Holy Spirit to help us be more like Him. Even now He hasn't stopped working on our behalf, but he is constantly praying to the Father for us.
Jesus will make all things right again

Jesus will make all things right again
The Bible promises that Jesus will physically return at an unannounced time - and that we are to be ready. This isn't talking about weird fanatics who claim to be Jesus and lead people into all kinds of oppression and strange behaviour - Jesus made it clear: His return will be clear and obvious to everyone - the whole of creation will see Him instantaneously.
For this day we eagerly await - it is the 'Christian hope' - when every wrong will be made right, when justice will be established worldwide, when those who want nothing to do with Jesus will be granted their desire and when those who love Him will have every tear wiped away by Him and will start a new life in the brand new heavens and the new earth - bring it on!
Jesus wants to know us today
Now God offers us the free gift of our sin forgiven and eternal life with Him. What do we have to do to get it? We have to receive it. We cannot earn it, all we can do is gratefully accept this gift from God.
