What is baptism?

baptismBaptism is a beautiful thing. The water speaks of cleansing – from past sins, from a guilty conscience, from a stained heart.

Being immersed in the water speaks of burial with Jesus – understanding that part of knowing Him is dying with Him to all that is old and dark.

Coming out of the water speaks of resurrection with Jesus – new life by the Holy Spirit bubbling up for eternity!

Baptism is a powerful declaration of what God has done in the lives of those baptised.

We don’t christen babies or ‘baptise’ those who don’t yet trust in the Lord Jesus. That's because baptism is the initiation rite for disciples of Christ; we wait until people choose to follow Him. Only then are they initiated into Christ through the waters of baptism.

Baptism happens once, in public, and before the church. It is a time of great joy and celebration.
